The Good Samaritan by Ron DiCianni ~ The Bible is clear, whether people are conscious of it or not, there is the image of God in them. That’s what gave them the ability to love, feel and have compassion for others. So much compassion, in fact, that many exchanged their lives to save people they didn’t even know. That, in a contemporary analogy, is the story Jesus told of the Good Samaritan. In Luke 10:30 the story is told in detail. A man is robbed and beaten, and left half-dead. Some people we might have thought were "good" people walked right by. Maybe it was the "I don't want to get involved" syndrome. The one who did stop was not even a friend of the man. Here's Jesus' description: "But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. The he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him" NIV There's even more to the story, but I think you get it. For the man who Jesus was telling this story to, (actually, you and me), here is the moral..."Jesus told him, 'Go and do likewise.'" The real paramedics heed those words each and every time they put their hand to the business of healing the hurting, comforting the dying or rescueing the perishing. For some, these compassionate people are the last earthly face they will see. |
